Hi, my name is Eric Acuña, I like to go by E. Currently, I am a Master’s student, studying as a research assistant for New Media and sculpture at the University of Texas in San Antonio, where I currently live and work. My work engages the audience in dialogue about their perception of art and uses conceptual sculpture, and installations to explore the process of creation. My interest are in kinetic energy, electronic sound, or anything that transmits frequency. My studies like to research the rhythms, systems, and metaphysics from an array of explorations and experimentations with electronics, light, and sound, to build responsive systems that engage with how we perceive and sense the world — and how those senses are entangled with our environments that seemly feedback into itself.
My practice begins through an investigation of light phenomena in soft materials through a multidisciplinary practice that brings together scientific, cultural, and Indigenous ways of knowing, treating technology as a tool, and as a kind of instrumentation of "memory" — one that helps us register time in an extravagant and exaggerated material form
I earned my BFA with a focus in Expanded Media studies from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. I currently live and work in San Antonio Texas where I enjoy venturing out into the dark skies, tracking radio signals, and observing the force in nature. I actively engage in the community astronomy club's sky-watching groups, and learning everything I can about satellite systems. In my free time, I love adventuring, I love discovering interesting books to read, and I enjoy capturing light refractions with my camera.
